...I originally sold a big version of Nick Cave [90cm x 90cm], but subsequently
could have sold it around Brighton about twenty times, so when the festival
was on I did some 'mini' versions of my earlier paintings for a bit of a laugh....
....guess what they sold well!
Anyway, I was asked to contribute a painting to Colin and Justin's Channel 5 "How Not To Decorate" programme. The 'fee' was a piss take, but I was persuaded about the publicity value of appearing on the show. Part of the programme had them arriving at my studio to collect the finished piece. I was filmed talking to them and handing it over to them...
Me and my wife and daughter kept watching the series for my big moment, but as the series went on it became clear that the show had mutated into a Colin And Justin bitch at assistant type of thing. All the contributors, painters, stained-glass artists etc, were either not shown, or got about a second of air-time, so that was the end of my great artistic break!
However, when they were in my studio Colin took a shine to my Nick Cave mini-version, peeled off two £50 notes off a huge wad, and got himself a bargain! The guy who bought the original phoned me up earlier this year and said that his daughter had seen 'his painting' in a magazine article about Colin and Justin's flat, luckily he found my mini-versions quite amusing!
So that's my story....ending up on the cutting room floor as usual!!
