In
2003 Jowe Head got in touch with Topplers Records as our band
the Nomen had done some cover versions of Swell Maps tunes. (Jowe
ended up singing backing vocals over the phone on their version
of Midget Submarines). He also sent us up a CD of his unreleased
"Sly Boots" album and Topplers asked if they could release
a couple of tracks as a single. Jowe chose these tracks and asked
the NoMen to add backing vocals. The fold out sleeve was done
by Allan from the NoMen and is loosely based on Jowe's first solo
LP "Pincer Movement." The picture on the back was Jowe's
original art for "Sly Boots."
OLIVE'S
HAIRY CUSTARD -
The first CD release of Jowe's band from the late nineties out
now on Topplers Records. It contains the 4 tracks from their 1997
single and 9 unreleased songs.
This CD contains some of Jowe's best work and the guitar work
is amazing! The vocals are shared between Jowe and his Australian
band members Garlon Hairmungus and Les Miserable and the drums
are by ex Thrilled Skinny drummer, Elliot P Smoke (who has an
amazing 7" single out
on Topplers with his current band The Knockouts!) Price for the
CD is £5 (packaged in
lavish fold-out sleeve with 12pp booklet)
From
a Parallel Universe (TV010)
Ten tracks from Jowe Head ranging from
big, beefy rock songs to trippy instrumentals. There are cover
versions of songs by such disparate artists as Burt Bacharach,
Kevin Coyne and Sun Ra; and Jowe even revives one of his early
Swell maps songs for this album!
This
is an excellent collection of songs and a great introduction to
the world of Jowe Head!

A
RECORD SHOP which opened in NYC took it's name from Jowe's
song on "Jane from Occupied Territory" and "Pincer
Movement." As a special treat, exclusive to their
customers, they released a 7" single of Jowe Head
and the Nomen doing a new version of 'Cake Shop Girl'!
It is a split single with "cause
co-mmotion" a band from Brooklyn.
A slightly remixed version of "Cake Shop" is
on the new Jowe head CD.

PERVERTED
BY MARK E Jowe's
version of the Fall song CHOC-STOCK, from their
classic Dragnet album, has been released on a Fall Tribute
album on which Jowe also does the cover art (well, it's
one of his paintings slightly bastardised!) See
the full details here.
There
are loads of bands either covering Fall tunes or doing
songs about the Fall! It's a great mixture - look out
especially for the Container Drivers "Ex
