The
NoMen - Go For A Knockout!
|
The
NoMen have been pottering around for the last five years banging
out cover versions of Swell Maps and TVP and Steve Treatment songs.
They have been the backing band on Steve Treatments recent output
as well as helping out on recent releases by Jowe Head and Phones
Sportsman. They released a CD of songs in 2003 and then had a split
7" single with Phones Sportsman in 2008. Most of their recordings
are free to listen to on their website but we thought we'd charge
you for this full throttle instrumental makeover of songs from the
sharpest band in Luton. The Knockouts! This is blistering party
crashing music. Like a Krautrock Link Wray playing with the MC5!

The
Paraffins - Cardboard Cutout Video EP
| Billy
Paraffin has served his time with Topplers records firstly as one
of the main members of the early NoMen and then as the drummer and
producer of the Deciders (the first band to release a 7" single
with us). His production skills on that record set a benchmark for
all other releases as he showed us that a DIY recording from my living
room could sound like a professional record! Billy has been on the
Scottish electro-pop scene for years with his band The Electroluvs
but this new project uses a more organic format with acoustic guitars
and percussion. |

Mr Luggs - Live at Smugglers
This
Live CD has been available for ages as a free download on the Mr Luggs
web page but we thought we'd edit out some of the awkward silences
to tighten up the listening experience. We've also boosted the sound
levels which makes this 'fly-on-the-wall' recording almost listenable!!!
Mr Luggs was asked to appear at a local pub and asked Allan from the
Topplers Studio if he could have the backing tracks from the CD he
was recording at the time as a backing track which he would sing a
long to. Allan accompanied him to the gig and ended up playing on
a few acoustic duets. It sound very nice and tame, doesn't it? What
could go wrong? Everything!
The crowd hated it! They were expecting some king of karaoke singalong,
not this. The torrent of abuse is captured faithfully on this recording
as is Mr Luggs hilarious responses! It's like Metallic KO without
the violence... |

The Existentialists - All the Polka Dot Bandits EP
| This
French sixties influenced band have already had a track from this
EP released by Topplers. It appeared on our first compilation CD from
2007. The Existentialists then released this EP on their own label
which we are pleased to be able to present here in the UK with a slightly
brighter cover to match the brilliance of the music! If you like the
way that the sound of the sixties was twisted and mutated by the likes
of The Television Personalities and Ed Ball, then I'll guarantee you'll
love this. |
