This is the affordable version of the recent Clear Vinyl 7" Single from Phones Sportman. Phones was an original member of the Swell Maps and he brought out his only other solo single in 1980. 28 years later he is back with a fresh new sound and has teamed up with the NoMen on this 5 'A" Sided Single.

The NoMen have spent the last few years doing cover versions of songs from the DIY punk era. Songs by the Swell Maps, Television Personalities, Jowe Head, Steve Treatment, Desperate bicycles etc have all had the Nomen treatment. For no particular reason in 2004 the NoMen wrote their only original composition and called it "I am the Son of Phones Sportsman!"

In a far flung part of the globe Phones Sportsman's alter ego David Barrington was working as a geologist. His colleagues were dubious of his past career as a musician so he 'Goggled' himself to prove that he was indeed one of the guiding lights of the early punk movement. Imagine his surprise when he found the NoMen had not only covered all five songs from his solo single but also claimed him as a father!!!
Phones got in touch with Topplers records and helped us out with a web page dedicated the the mysterious Phones Sportsman Band.

On New Years night of 2007 Phones got back in touch with Topplers, this time he was sending us newly written songs! By February 2008 he had a whole album written! One of the songs was a reply to the Nomen... "I am the Dad of George NoMan." We immediately got the NoMen to rerecord their own song and sent them off to the pressing plant along with a couple of updated NoMen Swell Maps cover versions.

The Topplers Lite CD is an exact reproduction of this historic piece of vinyl!
