jowe head songs by the nomen

Jowe's first solo album was the incredible "Pincer Movement". This album came out after the last Swell Maps album and still has a similar sound to the Maps. There are lots of great songs and interesting cover versions (Crawfish and Wimoweh!!!) and some truly bizzare cut-up tapes and found sounds. Phones Sportsman and Joe Foster both play on this LP - both of whom have also had tributes done by the NoMen.

For this collection of Jowe Head cover versions the NoMen renamed themselves the Nowe Men! Five tracks were recorded and are available to download here...

Jowe went on to record with The Palookas, The Househunter and Olive's hairy Custard as well as playing bass for the Television Personalities. He also brought out a number of records as a solo artist. The 'Personal Organiser' LP and 'The legendary' 7" were compiled together to make the "Unhinged" CD on Overground records (still available and well worth buying). 'Strawberry Deutchmark' was a compilation of tracks from Pincer Movement etc and some stuff Jowe did with Epic Soundtracks.
The NoMen chose their favourite tracks from these recordings for their second collection of Jowe head cover versions, going under the name of the Jowe Men for this one.

I made this music player at MyFlashFetish.com.
By this time they The NoMen were acquainted with Jowe and he let them hear the unreleased "Bobit Juice" LP and they recorded their own version of a couple of these tracks as well.
As well as the cover versions they added their own vocals and lyrics to Jowe's instrumental track "Boxing Day". This song featured a 'found' vocal snatch from Dan Treacy of the TVPs, and the NoMen's version added a 'rap' (!?!?) by Steve Treatment!
For the Topplers Records release of 'Merman Blues' and 'Baby Bounce' (both from 'Bobit Juice'), the NoMen were asked to add their distinctive vocals!

After that the NoMen took a back seat and Topplers were happy to release albums by Jowe Head himseld including "Olive's Hairy Custard", "From a Paralel Universe" and "Angel Racing Food." A 7" single was released by the 'Cake Shop' record store in New York. This featured the NoMen's recording of Cake Shop Girl with Jowe Head taking over on lead vocals. This track was also released on Jowe's 'Paralel Universe' CD.

The 'real' Jowe Head Page

In 2007 the NoMen teamed up with a new drummer Jamie Noman and launched into another collection of Jowe Head songs mostly from his later albums with Olives Hairy Custard, The Househumters, The Palookas and Angel Racing Food... but also popped in an old classic like Swiss Air from Pincer Movement.
