Twisted folk and melancholic pop...
An eclectic collective of London-based musicians taking their name from the title of Vítězslav Nezval's 1935 surrealist novel, Valerie and her Week of Wonders was formed in 2008 by celestial voiced songwriter Catherine Gerbrands and post-punk legend Jowe Head (ex Swell Maps, Television Personalities, Angel Racing Food and currently Jowe Head and the Demi-Monde).
This band incorporates about as many instruments as you can think of: strings and electric guitar intertwine, musical saw and bowed glass murmur and ring while fire extinguishers clang and through it all Catherine's eerie yet sugar-sweet voice spins out dark, urban fairy-tales to the twisted menagerie of all the people she's ever known.
The cold and beautiful pastoral gothic of Valerie and Her Week of Wonders has been well received in Europe and the band plan more Berlin gigs in late summer as well as releasing an EP through Scotland's Topplers label next month.
This music will certainly NOT provide the "soundtrack to your summer", but guarantees to score your most disquieting crepuscular reveries."
