Valerie And Her Week of Wonders

Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Twisted folk and melancholic pop...

An eclectic collective of London-based musicians taking their name from the title of VítÄ›zslav Nezval's 1935 surrealist novel, Valerie and her Week of Wonders was formed in 2008 by celestial voiced songwriter Catherine Gerbrands and post-punk legend Jowe Head (ex Swell Maps, Television Personalities, Angel Racing Food and currently Jowe Head and the Demi-Monde).

A four track CD EP of sensual Gothic beauty was released in 2010 featuring Jowe Head (Swell Maps, TVPs, The Demi-Monde) and the vocal talents of Catherine Gerbrands.

Catherine Gerbrands

This band incorporates many instruments; strings and electric guitar intertwine with a musical saw and bowed glasses while fire extinguishers clang behind the eerie yet sugar-sweet voice of Catherine Gerbrand as she spins out dark, urban fairy-tales to the twisted menagerie of all the people she's ever known.

This music will certainly NOT provide the soundtrack to your summer, but guarantees to score your most disquieting crepuscular reveries.

"Three years ago I started writing little lullabies for my animals..." said Catherine," and then the diabolical Jowe Head arrived, and a band of merry corruptors joined with him to twist and torture and turn them into the dulcet pop soundtrack of my child's heart breaking... (all characters in these songs are non-fictional and no names have been changed as none of them are innocent!)"

The four track EP from Valerie and Her Week of Wonders is the perfect antidote to todays formulaic feelgood pop. Stick this into your iPod and feel the chills of winter...
